2nd Annual National Cupcake Day for SPCA, February 24, 2014 ~ #Event

Who does not love cupcakes?   Host a cupcake day party to help raises funds for Canada’s SPCAs and Humane Societies.

Cupcakes are a sweet treat anytime, but they taste even sweeter when they support animals in need. Beginning January 6th, everyone is invited to “bake a difference” through the second annual National Cupcake Day™, taking place February 24th, to benefit Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Humane Societies across Canada. Originally launched by the RSPCA in Australia, New South Wales, National Cupcake Day™ began in parts of Canada last year, and the initiative is growing across Canada in 2014. The BC SPCA and the OSPCA are jointly organizing this year’s national event, which is sponsored by Petsecure Pet Health Insurance, Agency59, BMO Bank of Montreal and Reynolds Consumer Products.

National Cupcake Day™ is the first-ever collaborative fundraising effort supporting animal welfare societies across Canada. It’s easy and delicious to participate. Beginning January 6th, register your participation online at: www.nationalcupcakeday.ca; plan a cupcake party at work, home or school; start fundraising by encouraging friends and family to donate online in advance; bake your favourite cupcakes; share them with family and friends; and collect donations to prevent cruelty to animals. All proceeds will support furry friends, big and small, who have been abused or abandoned, or are in need of help.

Cupcakes by Anna Olson
Anna Olson, Celebrity Chef and host of Food Network Canada’s Bake with Anna Olson, is joining the party this year as a Cupcake Crusader. A long-time supporter of animals and the SPCA, Olson has created an original cupcake recipe for this year’s event. Her Banana Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Frosting recipe can be found at www.nationalcupcakeday.ca.

“Cupcakes are the universal feel-good dessert,” says Olson. “When I discovered that National Cupcake Day™ helps animals, it was the icing on the cupcake. Whether you make my cupcake recipe or whip up a batch of your own, this is a great chance to feed your body and your soul with a little taste of happiness.”

Let Them Eat Cupcakes! Everyone is encouraged to become a National Cupcake Day™ Host and join an exceptional group of supporters who understand the importance of companion animals in our lives. Here’s how to get involved:

1. Beginning January 6th, register for FREE at www.nationalcupcakeday.ca
2. You will receive a FREE Cupcake Host Welcome Package in the mail, which includes a poster, sticker, balloons, fundraising guide and recipes to get you started
3. Personalize your National Cupcake Day™ Online Bakery page and send it out to everyone you know
4. Encourage friends and family to support you by donating online
5. Plan your National Cupcake Day™ Party for home, work, school or wherever you think people would love to eat your cupcakes
6. Bake, decorate, eat and share delicious cupcakes to raise funds for Canada’s SPCAs and Humane Societies
7. Collect and forward funds to SPCAs and Humane Societies in your community (visit www.nationalcupcakeday.ca for a list of who’s participating)

National Cupcake Day™ will help shelters across Canada give a surrendered animal a new forever home; rescue a neglected or abused animal and give it a second chance at a new life; and provide emergency surgery to injured animals.

The Power of a Cupcake
“It’s amazing the power a cupcake can hold,” says Alison Cross, Director, Marketing and Communications for Ontario SPCA, Provincial Office. “The response to last year’s launch event was phenomenal and this year we encourage bakers and animal lovers across the country to get involved in National Cupcake Day™. It’s a fun event that makes a life-saving difference in the lives of animals who desperately need our help, and it’s a sweet way to show your support.”

About SPCAs and Humane Societies

These societies are dedicated to a variety of life saving work that may include: enforcing animal welfare legislation; rehabilitation and adoption for lost, abused and abandoned animals; advocacy for companion, wild and farm animals; and humane education.

  1. Great initiative! I usually don't participate in these types of "national days" but animal welfare is such an important cause.

  3. The SPCA and Humane Societies need lots of support as they are always on such a tight budget. Cupcakes appeal to everyone so this is a good way to raise money for them.
