Lego City of Tomorrow ~ #LEGOCityofTomorrow

A while ago, I watched a fascinating story of how Lego came to be.  The word Lego comes from a Danish phrase "leg godt" meaning, "play well".  It was created by a carpenter named Ole Kirk Christiansen.  They wanted to create a toy to help build imagination and creativity.  If you want to watch it, it is available on Youtube.  With a little bit of imagination and some mis-mash of Legos, my daughters can create anything they want.

LEGO is hoping to inspire a nation of kids and is encouraging them to join the movement by building their vision for the city of tomorrow. We’re inviting young builders to leave the instructions behind and to think even bigger – we’re inviting kids across Canada to build the future!

 With Canada’s 150 fast approaching, what better time to give the builders of tomorrow a platform to shape a truly inspiring future? LEGO BUILD YOUR CITY OF TOMORROW is aimed to inspire young Canadians to think about what will make Canada’s future cities better, brighter, and even more fun! Will there be more parks and green space? What will transportation look like? What about pets? How will technology impact our day-to-day lives?

 Here’s how young builders across Canada can get involved in shaping their future…
• Create their own LEGO CITY OF TOMORROW build expressing their vision for the future
• Capture and Submit their creations online at http://www.legoplay.ca/city-of-tomorrow until June 4 for an opportunity to win a once-in-a-lifetime family trip to Ottawa on July 1st to experience the Canada 150 celebrations
• Join a Free Family Team Build by visiting any of the 82 Toys R Us stores across Canada on April 8 or 9 from 11 AM to 3 PM for super awesome CITY OF TOMORROW build events. You and your family are welcome to join us!

    LEGO is a wonderful toy - my kids spent hours and hours creating with LEGO blocks. (Mommy had fun with them too!)

    My kids played for hours on end with Lego when they were kids and that's nearly 40 yrs ago. In fact my oldest is still a huge fan. I remember visiting Lego's site in Billund, Denmark when I lived there, it was fascinating. So much imagination, brilliant. :-)

    My 7 children all loved Lego as do my 7 grandchildren now. In fact one of my own is still a huge fan despite being an adult.

    Lego is awesome! I kept all my son and daughter Lego in a Rubbermaid container. My 4 year old granddaughter loves them, we build lots together. I kept all the instructions but we never use them, we both use our imaginations! Thank you will watch the video.

    I can't believe how far Lego has come since I was a kid, we had gret pads and red and white square blocks that's it, today it's beyond cool

    My grandson has spent many hours building countless LEGO sets and loves to play with them. We encourage him to play with toys that enhance his imagination and LEGO is at the top of our list.
