National Geographic Kids #momsmeet

It has been awhile since I cracked open a National Geographic magazine.  I have always love looking at the pictures.  I have seen National Geographic Kids magazine in stores and I didn't know they have been around since 2004.

National Geographic Kids Weird But True! Canada

This past Christmas, my youngest daughter had a class book exchange.  I bought a National Geographic book and when one of the lucky kids opened to see what he received,  the rest of the class were jealous.  They all wanted that book.  If you are planning to go to a kiddie birthday party or a an event, think about getting a National Geographic Kids subscription or maybe a book or two.

National Geographic Kids Weird But True! Canada

I got the chance to read through National Geographic Kids Weird But True! Canada.  It contains 300 fun facts of my beloved Country.  Here are a few examples:
  • The Royal Mint once created a coin weighing more than 90 kg and valued at over $1 million dollars.
  • Canada was the first country to build a UFO landing pad.
  • Montreal is the second largest French-speaking city in the world.
National Geographic Kids Weird But True! 10th year anniversary

This is one of many Weird But True! book series.  This is their 10th year anniversary so there are 10 volumes you can check out.  In case you were curious, the Weird But True! 10 which contains 350 fun facts like "Did you know that ears are self-cleaning, or that itching is contagious?"  I kinda knew about the ear fact but didn't know that itching is contagious.  The series were recently updated and available for purchase.

One great thing reading National Geographic Kid with your kids is that you are learning fun facts as they are learning too.  The other great thing is that National Geographic makes reading fun and I want to build that positive attitude.  What makes Weird But True! books so attractive are the glossy pages, large font sizes, and beautiful pictures/photos it contains.

There is a Weird But True! Canada Contest!  Kids ages 6-14 are invited to enter the Weird But True! Canada contest by submitting their own verifiable weird facts about their hometown, province, or country at natgeokids.com/wbtcanada.  The contest ends March 1, 2019.  If you win, you will receive Weird But True! Canada and Weird But True! 10 books.

Here are some fun facts about the Weird But True! series:

  • Canada was the first country to get its own Weird But True! book (March 2018).  I bet US will follow shortly.
  • More than a third of all Weird But True! facts are about animals.
  • Kids can read Weird But True! books in 14 languages, inlcuding Chinese, Turkish, Thai, And Arabic!
  • One of the first and favourite Weird But True! facts: 99% of people can't lice their elbows.  But 90% of people who read this will try!

The last fun fact is very interesting since I just heard it just a week ago while I was watching a cartoon with my youngest daughter.  We both tried to lick our elbows. Then of course when I mention this to a friend, he said he knew that and told me "Did you know we can't lick the back of our heads."  Ha!  Funny guy.

National Geographic Kids Weird But True! Canada is available to purchase at Indigo, Barnes & Noble, independent bookstores, Target, Walmart, Amazon, and wherever books are sold. Weird But True! Canada generally retails for $7.99 in the United States and $10.99 in Canada
