Alpha-Mania Adventures Series ~ #Review #Giveaway #2016GiftGuide

I can't believe how many people have poor literacy skills in Canada.  Both my kids are at school and the teachers keeps on telling me to read to my kids every day at least for 20 mins.  It is hard and I do try my best.  I love books when my kids can interact instead of just listening to me read.

Alpha-Mania Adventures Series ~ #Review #Giveaway #2016GiftGuide

I received two books, book one and book two of the Alpha-Mania Adventures series.  The first book is about the Alpha-Mania gang meet some pirates and they got to train them how to be proper pirates.  During the story, my kids got the chance to interact by finding letters or pictures that starts with the letter.  It was like Finding Waldo or Eye Spy book.  I enjoyed reading the first book with my child and be prepare to allocate more time on this book than 20 minutes.  When you are searching for pictures or letters, it takes awhile for the little ones to look for them.

The second book is very much like the first book and this time they are on a treasure hunt.  I enjoyed reading these books with my child.  She enjoyed the book and had so fun looking for the pictures and letters.  At the end of each books there are recommended activities you can do with your child.  This book series is a great gift idea.  I believe any child would enjoy the series.

Fifty-two percent of adults in the U.S. and 49 percent of adults in Canada continue to possess literacy skills too low to be considered fully competent for most jobs in our modern economy (PIAAC, 2012). But many believe that incorporating playtime into reading skills is an innovative and effective way to encourage successful reading skills

“The Alpha-Mania Adventures series (an innovative five-book children's book series) was developed to be both a teaching tool within the classroom, and a resource for parents to promote learning at home,” says Rumack. "Learning these essential skills early increases confidence and leads to a love of reading!” In an inspiring, educational interview, Rumack can discuss:
Why learning to read accurately and fluently is one of the most important skills a child needs to learn in order to become a productive, independent adult

Why many teachers are not aware of the importance of phonological awareness in reading development, and how the “ABCs” approach is doing a disservice to reluctant readers and A+ students alike

That decades of research shows that phonological awareness is the best predictor of later reading and spelling success

Making learning fun! – why promoting “play” in the early years is more valuable than it is often given credit for in traditional classroom settings
How parents can easily and effectively complement and support what their children are learning in school, and navigate often unwieldy and challenging school systems

  4. I always read to my children at the very least at bedtime every evening. When they got older and able to read themselves they were allowed to leave their light on for an extra half hour but only if they were reading. I must admit I realise the level of literacy in North America is surprisingly low but that it is that bad I hadn't realised. Quote "52% of adults in the U.S. and 49% of adults in Canada continue to possess literacy skills too low to be considered fully competent for most jobs in our modern economy" That is scary indeed.
