Happy 100th Anniversary, Laura Secord ~ Review

Can you believe 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of Laura Secord, Canada's largest chocolatier store.  It was founded in 1913 by Frank P O'Connor, a 28-year-old businessman, in Toronto on Yonge Street.  He turned his apartment into a candy store and named it Laura Secord in honour of the Canadian heroine.  The success of the company expanded across Ontario and Quebec.   Laura Secord has now over 113 shops across Canada plus other distribution points.  A special cameo logo will be created for its 100th anniversary.

Recently, Laura Secord has launched it own line of cooking chocolates.  "This new peanut-free line inlcudes three new products: Pure Milk Chocolate Drops, Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, and Mini Chocolate Chips - 70% Cocoa" for a retail price of $3.49 to $14.99."

Laura Secord's has always brought back good childhood memories, eating their chocolates or ice-cream.  I could never walk by the store.  I have to at least pop in and browse what they have in-store.  Laura Secord was kind enough to send me a sample of their delicious chocolates and immediately most of the chocolates disappeared in record time.  My absolute favourite is their orange cream chocolate, my daughter's favourite is their chocolate suckers, and my husband's is their mint chocolate.  He thinks that Laura Secord "makes, bar none, the finest mint chocolates in the world.  Whether it is the attractive and minty frosted mint, or the unassumingly smooth and delicious french mint, you can't go wrong."  I was also sent a pack of their new cooking chocolates.  I can't decide what I will use it for...cookies? muffins? brownies?  Regardless, I know my family will enjoy it.

To mark this special occasion  Laura Secord is giving away $100,000 in prizes by entering into their contest from now to March 31st, 2013.  There are "many instant prizes, for a total of $100,000 will be given out to chocolate lovers."  A pin will be required to enter into the draw.  It is obtained by spending a minimum of $10 at any Laura Secord shops.  For more information visit www.laurasecord.ca/en/contest/index or on their Facebook at www.facebook.com/laurasecord.ca

    Laura Secord chocolates are so good. They melt in your mouth. Every single time my daughter and I go to the mall we pick up one or two of their chocolate bars and for Easter and Christmas Laura Secord is on my list of places to purchase gifts. Laura Secord has cooking chocolate...awesome!!

    Hello, Happy Chinadoll. I was very surprised to hear of the 100th anniversary through your post. I also did not know that they launched their own line of cooking chocolates. I liked that you shared with all each of your family's favourites from Laura Secord. Your article made me want to visit Laura Secord right away - all of your comments brought back memories and made all of their items sound so irresistable that I cannot wait for my next visit.     They really are a Canadian classic! I really enjoy their mint chocolate and the Laura Secord miniatures. My boyfriend loves those giant fondant eggs they have this time of year.

    I remember being spoiled on special occasions with Laura Secord chocolates as a kid. Love that Canadians still have great quality vendor such as Laura Secord.

    My Mom, sisters and I are all huge Laura Secord chocolate fans. I love their bark so much that I cannot pass a shop without buying some. My mother loves their Mint creams..It is so good to see a Canadian company still flourishing.
