Hallmark WorkShop: Calligraphy 101 ~ #LoveHallmarkCA

I had the most wonderful time participating at Hallmark’s Calligraphy workshop at Hopson Grace Store. The workshop ran by Lisa Mavian from PostCalligraphy. It has been decades since I used a calligraphy pen. It was fun learning it all over again but this time I had an instructor. In the past I self taught but even then I think I was doing it all wrong. I had a classmate demonstrating her Calligraphy penmanship that I wanted to give it a try. I got my mom to get me a Calligraphy set/kit. I worked on it for a few weeks and then forgotten about it. This experience was so much different. I was actually dipping a pen into a jar of ink. All I need to do is stick a feather on the pen and I would be writing like Victorian era.

I email and text all the time but I like it when I write out my notes or cards. It is so much more personal and heartfelt when the note is handwritten rather than typed. I always print my letters all the time and during the calligraphy workshop I had to remember my cursive writing. I have to dig into my memories how to do some of the letters.

We practiced with pencil first when writing - light strokes going up and heavy strokes going down. I couldn’t tell when I was using the pencil but once we used the pen, I could see how pretty it looks. I think I am going to start using my calligraphy pen more often to write my notes to the teachers or thank you notes, or even in Hallmark greeting cards.

Before blogging, I use to have a journal that I would write down my thoughts. Once in awhile I still write in my journal. If your mother enjoys writing and/or loves to send out hand written notes, think of Hallmark when looking for your Mother’s Day gift. Hallmark has a great selection of blank books and stationeries and other items they might enjoy.  Don't forget to stop by to pick up a card for Mother's Day.

  2. I love calligraphy, I learnt it at school when I was about 10 yrs old, mainly italics and Old English. Unfortunately my 'normal' handwriting is hardly readable, thankfully most of my writing is now done on the computer :-)
