L'Occitane Ultra Soft Balm ~ #WomensDay & #Review

March 8, 2015 is International Women's Day and in some countries like China, Russia, Vietnam, and Bulgaria it is a national holiday.  It is a day to celebrate women's successes and achievements of women past, present and future.  The first International Women's Day dates back 1911, (March 19) where 1 million women and men "campaigning for women's rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination."  It was later in 1975 where the United Nation designated March 8 as International Women's Day.

L'Occitane Ultra Soft Balm

I can't express enough how grateful I am with all the hard work the women of the past achieved to bring today's women equality.  Without them, I could see myself and my daughters living in a whole different life than what I have now.

L'Occitane is selling ultra soft balm that 100% of the net profits will be donated to organizations that promote women's entrepreneurship.  The Ultra Soft Balm is an apricot-scented, multi-purpose moisturizer made with 96% shea butter - the multi-talented beauty ingredient.  Ultra-nourishing and protective it can be on the lips, body and hair, and slips easily into your handbag, so you can keep it with you wherever you go.

I really enjoy using this Ultra Soft Balm.  I can't believe how soft the 96% shea butter feels compared to 100% shea butter.  Shea butter is rock hard and it is usually hard to get it out of the container and takes awhile to melt onto my skin.  This is a bit easier to get out of the tin and fast absorbing.  I love the apricot scent.  It is not strong but it is noticeable.  I mainly use it for my hand and nails but I also like using it on my lips too!

Every year, to mark International Women's Day on March 8th, L'Occitane pays tribute to the women of Burkina Faso.  It was in Burkina Faso, in the early 1980s, that Olivier Baussan first discovered shea butter - an exceptionally talented ingredient that both nourished and protects.

Since then, over 30 years of shared history have built a bond between L'Occitane and the women of Burkina Faso.  To keep this bond strong, the L'Occitane Foundation has chosen to focus its actions on their economic emancipation by supporting, in particular, literacy, traning and microcredit programmes in Burkina Faso.

In 2009, the L'Occitane Foundation began working in partnership with the French NGO Enrepreneurs du Monde on a multi-year project.  Developed with the microfinance institution AsIEnA, it aims to promote economic self-sufficiency and an entrepreneurial spirit among Burkinabe women.

The project focuses on two main theme:

  • Providing financial support for women, so that they can develop income-gerating activities
  • Assisting these women by providing socio-ecomomic training, to build up their entrepreneurial skills.

To date, almost 900 women have learned to read and write in the 31 literacy centres opened by the L'Occitane Foundation, while over 6,000 women have benefited from microcredits.

  2. I love the fact that this is made with 96% shea butter and the profits go to a worthy cause. When I think back to the time of suffragettes I am extremely grateful for the fact that women have become so independant and successful and all due to women who saw the inequality at the time.
