Weekend (quick) shopping trip

I was out and found some great deals at my local Winners' beauty section.
Have you been there?
You might be amazed to see what treasures they might have.
This is all in Canadian dollar.

Then I quickly popped into Marshall's

Then I stopped over at Walmart to get some tea.
I walked over to their beauty section and saw Mabelline's Baby Lips for $3.96.
Wanted to get them but I have too much lip balm.
I just saw some girls grabbed three of them!
Maybe next month...

Of all that I only bought Clean's body butter for $6.99 at Winners.
It smells like dryer sheets rubbed all over my hands.
It remains me that I have to do a load of laundry today :(

Do you like my shopping trip?
Ta ta for now :)

January 2012 Luxe Box

It is the end of the month and their January Luxe box finally came.
The reason why, you can read it here.

This is my 5th box - I have their September, October, November, and December box.
My favourite box is the November so far.
When I picked up the box the first thing I noticed is it's bigger.
There were two boxes inside!
I was so excited to open it.

The first box (black box):

Yves Rocher: Rouge Dragee Lipstick
Full size 3.5g @ $5 ($4.95 as per their website) = sample size
It is OK.  I am not a big fan of lip stick.  I am more of a lip gloss/lip balm person.  It is smooth when I put it on.  It is more orangy than red on me.  This was in other subscriber's previous month box.

NYX: Eye shadow
Full size 2.5g @ $5 = sample size
The colour I have is Dust Sparkle.  It is very light.  I have lots of glittery eye shadow.  Too bad it was not a solid colour.  Last month I received their black eye liner, you can read it here.

Chloe: Eau De Parfume
Full Size 50ml @ $90 = sample size 5ml @ $9
It came in a cute little bottle.  This was another product from previous month box.  I am not a big fan of this perfume.  My husband didn't like it on me.  He found it too strong.  :(

Chi: Silk Fusion
Full size 180ml @ $33 = sample size 15ml @ $2.75
It came in a tiny bottle and it might last me 3 or 4 washes since I have long hair.  It has a oily texture like any other hair product.  I think I have seen this product before???  I can't remember.

Bonus - Seattle's Best Coffee
Full size 340g @ $9.99 = sample size 56g @ $1.65
Plus a $1 off coupon
I don't drink coffee and my husband prefers either Starbucks or Tim Horton's.  Will have to give this away to either my mom or my sister in-law.   :(

The second box (white box):

I received a 5 blade Schick Hydro Silk razor that is worth $13.99 plus it came with $4 off coupon for replacement blades.  I think this is nice but unfortunately I have a collection of razors...don't ask me why.
Too bad it didn't come with free sample of shaving gel but it came with Fekkai Advance Shampoo and Conditioner sample.  If I purchase them at Shoppers Drug Mart I received 8,000 points which is worth $10 (I think).  I am not a big fan with these shampoo samples - only good for one wash.  I consider this cheapo sample :) .  I like the travel size and once in awhile I get them for free.  I will estimate the sample might be worth $2.00.

The worth of this box is approximately $39+

Overall, I am depressed receiving this box because I could not get one of the Benefit cosmetic they had available.  I was not chained to my computer so I didn't get the email until later that evening.  By then all the samples were gone.  :(  I was one of the unfortunate ones who lucked out & I wanted to cry...Boo

January 2012 Julep box

This was sitting in my mailbox

Have you hear of Julep Maven?
I didn't until I read it on another Canadian blogger site...I can't remember who.
Your first box would be $5 US and boxes after that will be $19.99 US/month.
You go to their website and fill out a survey to know your style.
Well, I am only going to try this once to see if I like it.
I find that $19.99 US for two tiny bottle of nail polish and hand cream seems a bit much even if they say it is worth $40US.

My review on Julep:

Price - $5US for the first box and $19.99US/month.  Expensive if you ask me.
Shipping - Free! But there is no tracking number for us Canadians.  :(
Website - Easy Peasy
Delivery - Took about 9 business days from the time I put in the order.  This may vary depending on where you live.
Customer Service - Don't know, didn't need to contact them...yet.
Cancellation - You have to call them to cancel.  They say you can cancel at any time...but read the fine print.
Skip - you have the ability to skip a month which is nice.  In case you are travelling or away this is a nice option.

Overall, it was nice to receive it.  For $5US for two nail polish and a hand cream but not worth $19.99US if you ask me.  I wasn't sure how long it would have taken across the boarder.  I've found it OK.  I've already skipped next month's box only because I didnt received this box yet.  Might cancel it next week or so.  I really not interested in paying 2 or 3 tiny nail polish for $19.99US.

Discounted Giftcards

Oh!  I was not expecting this in the mail for a few more days but I am glad I received it.
I ordered a gift card from CardSwap.
It took about one week to reach my front door.
This is my first time using CardSwap.
First time users gets $5 off your first purchase.
They don't have every gift cards in stock so you will have to check everyday to see what they have.
You can sell your unwanted gift cards.
For more information go to their website or contact them.

My review on CardSwap:

Prices - Gift cards are discounted.  It is your decision if it is a bargain.  I purchased mine at 10% off so I only save $2.50...LOL.
Retails - Not all cards are available.  Check daily, you might never know what is in stock.
Shipping - Free! But there is no tracking number.  They put it in snail mail so I dont know what happens if it gets lost. :(
Website - Easy Peasy
Delivery - Took about a week (this will vary depending where you live)
Customer Service - Don't know, didn't need to contact them.

Overall, I am happy to receive my first purchase.  Will I use them again...maybe.  I will keep on checking once in awhile to see if there is anything worth purchasing.  Now it is time to go shopping!

Otaku?

Don't know why we have cable.
It is so expensive and we hardly use it.
The only person who is really benefiting it is my daughter.  She loves her Treehouse.
We are under contract for 2 years so once it is up - I can't wait to cancel it.
Sometimes I have the Food Network or HGTV as back ground noise but paying about $60 is a waste of money.
However, I do watch anime online.
The first anime I watched was Astro Boy.
Then came Akira (which I didn't like) and Sailor Moon which they created my love of anime.

Over the years I watched so many that I have lost count.
There are some favourite ones that I will re-watch them again.  That is for another blog.  :)
I prefer watching the original voices with English subtitles.
I only watch anime and I do not collect posters, figures, memorize lines, etc...
I am not that obsessive.
So what do you call a person who just like watching them...??

Eyelash Curler

I've never owned a eyelash curler before until 2 years ago.
I did alot of research to see which one will be perfect for me.
I wanted a really good one that will last.
After a few days I bought Shu Uemura's eyelash curler.
It was $24 Cdn at Sephora so it was not cheap but I fell in love with it.
It came with a second rubber curler bottom.
The downside is I have no idea to get more when I need to replace it...

To use the curler:
1. Make sure your eyelashes are clean
2. Eyelash curler works best when it is heated with a hair dryer for 5 seconds on low heat.  Slightly warm, not hot.  (Who has time for this?  When you are in a rush, skip this step like me...LOL)
3. Then curl.  The longer you hold the more curve you will get.  You will not be able to get all of your eyelashes so you will need to use the smaller (individual) eyelash curler to finish it off.  You can also curl your bottom lashes but this is optional.  (I barely have bottom eyelashes so I don't bother with it.)
4. Then apply mascara of your choice.  Do not use the curler after you apply the mascara because your eyelashes might stick to the curler, we don't want that to happen.
5. Once in awhile don't forget to clean your eyelash curler.

Which one are you using?

Butter, butter, butter

Picture from BeautyMark newsletter

Until last year, I have never hear of them.
I have yet to try them.  What is stopping me is the price.
$18 for a nail polish?
Just as expensive as Deborah Lippmann which I never heard of until I have signed up for topbox, which you can read it here.
They said their nail polish is without the harsh chemicals.
They call it the 3 Free: which is No Formaldehyde, No toluene, No DBP (phthales).
Maybe someday I might treat myself to one or maybe I might be lucky to get one as a gift. :)

Yummy Guava

Picked these up at Sephora awhile ago and fell in love with them.
I have never hear of this company before so I thought I would try them out.
Korres came to Canada in 2011 and you can get them at either Shoppers Drug Mart or Sephora.

I love both the lip & body butter.
I can't believe how yummy they smell.
I have read reviews how much they love Korres' lip butter but the only downside is the price.
If you read how they make their stuff with all natural products it makes sense why it cost so much.
Good stuff are never cheap but if they do go on sale you better stock up!  LOL
Try them out and you will be surprise how much you will fall in love with them.

Well.ca Review

Don't you just love to see your package arrived (in time)?
Don't you love to see what is in your box is what you've ordered?
Don't you hope to see what you order is what you expected?

This is my first purchase at well.ca.
I assume you have heard of them...if not, go check out their site.

I have decided to purchase an eyeshadow pallet but didn't know which one to buy.
I grab this pallet because it came with 6 colours.

It is not as dark as I thought.  Each eyeshadow has glitter in it.
At the back of the package it said to add water to make the colour more intense...a bit but not much.

Then I wanted to grab something to hydrate my hair because it is always so dry.
I picked up Pantene's hair solution treatment to restore dry and damaged hair.
It smells great.
Use this twice and it is OK...not as good as my Lush's R&B leave-in hair moisturizer.

Don't forget my goodies =)
Must have chocolate.  My hubby already ate half of one.
*Update - they are now all gone!!!!*

King Size
My review on Well.ca:

Prices - most products are more pricey than your local Walmart or Zellers.
Products - good selection but they don't carry everything.  They do carry some eco-friendly that is only sold at their store.
Shipping - Free! (psst...it is included in their price.) Ability to select an option to either to leave at your doorstep or not is a great idea.  Also free shipping depends on where you live.
Website - Easy to use.
Delivery - Took about 3 days for the product to arrive at my door step (this will vary)
Customer Service - Sends you updates to tell you where your order is and when your order has arrived (via Canada Post).  Two thumbs up for that service.

My overall first experience with Well.ca was perfect.  I not sure if I will use them again unless I see a great deal.

**Update...I see they have sales all the time...Hmmm, let's go take a look... :)

New Lush Products

Lush has 15 new inventions - check them out here.
They all look so nice that I think I have to pop into the store to check them out.
Here are my top 5 that I think I have to add to my wish list

#1 - Lustre: Dusting powder - smells good and look amazing.  I like the sound of that.

#2 - Latte: Lip Tint - made with powdered coffee.  Not sure about this but I love lip tint.

#3 - Ro's Argan: Body Conditioner.  Anything that helps to soften my skin I am all for it.

#4 - Rose Queen: Bath Bomb.  If I ever take a bath I would love to try this out.  It has petals in it!

#5 - Dirty: Soap.  I think this is perfect for my bathroom, even a conversational piece.  A soap that says Dirty on it is pretty funny.

My Beauty Diary Face Mask Review

My next review is a product from My Beauty Diary from Taiwan called Japanese Cherry Blossom Face Mask.
Bought this when I was at my T&T supermarket at the beauty section isle.

It was on sale for $13.99 (Reg price of $15.99).
Unfortunately, the box is written in Chinese so there is no English instructions written in the box.
So I got this information from Yesstyle.com website for the details.
" Sheet-type face mask provides an instantaneous skin brightening effect, adding a healthy glow that revives complexion. Apply mask on cleansed face and leave on for 20 minutes. Massage excess essence in the pack on neck. No need to rinse off. Can be used on all skin types. Recommended for dull and dry complexion. By My Beauty Diary."
"A Fresh Whiteness: Especially made from the extracts of Yoshino cherry blossoms, this mask has whitening, relaxing, and tightening effects on the skin and is able to bring back smoothness and firmness to tired skin. Combined with lemon and kiwi extracts, it allows tired, weary skin to become relaxed and soft in an instant. The breath of cherry blossoms allow the skin to become soft and tender, much like the blooming blossoms of Yoshino, displaying a beautiful combination of pink and white colors.

  • Brightening and Relaxing: Arnica and aloe plant essences moisturize and repair skin, giving back its original energy and smoothness!
  • Suitable Skin Types: Normal and specially recommended for weary and gloomy skin.
  • Purpose: Refreshing & Restoring

  • How to Use:
  • After cleansing, unfold the mask and place it over your face for 20-30 minutes.
  • If there is remaining serum on your face, gently massage this into your skin with your fingertips.
  • Do not wash off mask serum, just proceed with normal daily skincare routine and you may apply your moisturizer over the skin.
  • Pack Size - 10 pcs "

  • My review after one use:
Price - $1.40 each face mask is a great price.  I have seen some facial mask for $9+ each!
Where- I think you can only purchase at T&T so unless there is one near you, I have no idea where to get this.  Maybe online?
Use - It is really easy to use.  Just open it up and peel off the plastic adhesive and put on.
Smell - A faint cherry blossom smell.  Can't smell it after I put it on.
The Mask - It is really big so it can fit anyone.  It will stay on your face while you can go about your daily chores.  After 30 mins, the mask is still wet so it is easy to take it off.
Result- After you take off the mask, your skin may feel a little sticky, tacky like.  Don't wash it off.  It will go away after it dries.  It made my skin very soft.  I couldn't stop touching my skin.  It is so soft.  LOL
Repurchase - I am not sure.  I will see after I have finish the box and if anyone notices my skin has a healthy glow. =)

    Spring Colours

There is another one on my wish list - Maybe...
Saw this on Sephora's facebook page.
Those colour reminds me of Spring.
I don't think I could wear those colours, maybe my 5 year old can.
I have seen this women around her 30s wearing baby blue eye shadow.
Really bright baby blue eye shadow.
Wish I could take a picture of her to show you how bright it is.
It really pops out on her fair skin.
I want to tell her, maybe she should retire her baby blue and maybe go for something darker.

    They are Here!!!

Just got the email that Glossybox has landed on Canadian soil.
They had opened their office in Toronto.
The catch is they are $15 per box for 5 items. Yikes!
    Anyone going to join?
I was hoping it was not more expensive than their other competitor.
I want to join but for $15???
I am sure people are going to join but that shows that if they can charge $15 then the others might raise their price too!
I think one reason why it is so expensive is their overhead cost.
I am not surprise that having an office in downtown Toronto is cheap.  They should have opened their office where rent is cheaper to help reduce their cost of the box :(
Should I join?  Are you?  Let me know :/
*Update, $15 include taxes.  I live in Ontario so our tax rate is 13% so the box is $13.27 per month...OK, it does not seem too bad and they did say once in a while they send you a free 6th item.  It is $1.27 more expensive than the Luxe box.

    January 2012 Glymm Box

It is a foggy and rainy morning.
Trying to stay warm and dry...then I heard my door knocking.
I opened my door and saw the Canada Post truck drive away...Oooo!  My Glymm box has arrived.
For more information about the box and their services go to their website.

Once I opened the box, this is what I've found:

Kaia Naturals: Juicy Bamboo Facial Cleansing Cloths
    Full size 30 cloths @ $17.99, sample size is 1 cloth @ $0.60
This is very interesting.  I cant wait to try it.  I think this is a bit expensive for 30 cloths.  I never understand why bamboo products are so expensive when it is consider a weed in China.

Vasanti Cosmetics: BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator
    Full size 120 ml @ $34, sample size is 12g @ $3.40
At first I thought it was a cream.  It is to ex-foliate your face.  It smells great and it feels like a face wash with very fine sand beach in it.

Anastasia Beverly Hills: Clear Brow Gel
    Full size .28oz @ $21, sample size is 0.085oz @ $6.38
Never heard of brow gel before.  I am not sure how to use this item.  It looks like a mascara.

Burt's Bees: Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion
    Full size 170 g @ $12.99, sample size is 14 ml(g) @ $1.07 (based on both pkg)
Not a big fan of their packaging.  Wish it was in a little container so it wont dry out if I dont use it all at once.  I have tried their lip balm and face wash but never their lotion.  I dont I like the smell, even if it smells like milk and honey.  The smell does goes away so that is OK.

    Cargo Cosmetics: Eye Pencil
    Full size 2 g @ $16 = sample size
I love full size samples.  Who does not :p.  I have growing collection of eye pencils.  LOL  I cannot tell the difference between this eye pencil than the other ones I have already.  At least I will still use it.

Total value of the box is $27.

They also have included a free lip shine from their boutique that is worth $25.  However, you have to purchase something first in order to receive the free item.  Not sure I will be using this.

    The Bottom Line
My experience with this month's box - 4/5
    Product received - 3/5
    The surprise - 4/5
Favourite product received - Cargo eye pencil

Both my mom and I received the same thing...that is OK
We were both sad there were no jelly beans this month...I wonder if they forgotten in this month's box

    Until next time.
    Ta ta for now.

    January 2012 Topbox

Hope everyone is having a great day.
My mailman (yes he is a man) just popped by and left me my box :)
This is my third box.  You can read my other two - here and here.
For more information on topbox or to sign up, go to their website.

This is what I have received this month:
Principessa Beauty: Notte Breeze Dry Shampoo
    Full size is 125g @ $24, sample size is 30g @ $5.76
Dry Shampoo is all the rave this past season.  I can't wait to try this on those off days when I don't have time to wash my hair.  It smells great, almost better than baby powder.  This product is for darker hair colour which is perfect for me.

Shu Uemura: Full Shimmer Illuminating Shampoo
    Full size is 300 ml @ $45, sample size is 75ml @ $11.25
This shampoo is for colour treated hair.  I have some left over from last year so I don't need to worry about getting this special type of shampoo.  I will try this and I think I could get two or three washes from this tube.  This smells great!

    Lise Watier: Eye Shine Eyeliner
Full size is .04oz @ $17 and the sample size = full size
Yes!  I love full sizes.  I love the colour.  It is great that they have chosen brown for me.  It goes on smooth like butter unlike your regular eyeliner.

Lillypilly: Tree Tea Hand and Body Creme
    Full size is 150 ml @ $22, sample size is 50ml @ $7.33
I have never heard of this company.  It is nice to try out new products from companies you have never heard of.  There is a faint smell of tree tea which is fine.  It goes on very light and leaves my skin all nice and smooth.  It is a great size for my purse.

The total worth of this box is $41+

    The Bottom Line
My experience with this month's Topbox - 5/5
    Product received - 4/5
    The surprise - 5/5
Favourite product received - Lise Watier
Brownie Points - First box arrive at my door step

    Did you receive yours yet?
    What did you get?

    Until next time

    Healthy

I am working on my New Years Resolution.
Drink more water and eat more healthy salads.

The other one is to regularly clean my skin to make it healthy and glowing and maybe give me the dreamy peach like complexion.
My sister in-law gave me some nose strips to help me detox my nose.
The strips looks like the Biore's nose strips.

This brand is called Etude House from Korea.

She purchased them from a store in Korean Town.
The first strip is cotton soaked with fruit extracts to help remove black & white heads.
The second strip is soaked with herbal extracts to tighten pores.

The trouble I found with the first strip is that it won't stay on.
I think I have to lie down for this first step.
It does not have an adhesive to make it stay put.
Afterwards I took the Q-tip to rub off the black/white heads in a downward motion.
I didn't see any but I did it anyway.
Luckily the second strip had an adhesive so I was able to go about my day without having it falling off.
After taking off the 2nd strip, I can't really tell if my pores has tightened.

    My overview:
Price - $2.50 a pack is pretty expensive in my option, especially I didn't see any improvement. Not sure if I am suppose to give it a month to see any difference.  That is too expensive to see if something may or may not work.
Easy - it is easy to use but I wish both strips had adhesives.
Smell - Both didn't have any terrible odour.
Where - so far I only know it can be purchase at your local Korean grocery store - I think
Pain - no pain putting it on or off
Result - none, well I did not see anything
Repurchase - No, I will save my money and look for other options.

    Say yes!

Have you tried Yes to carrots/cucumbers/etc...?
I have see these at Shoppers Drug Mart the other day.
They look so interesting I wanted to try them out.
So far I have read great reviews on them.
If you have tried them, which one should I try?

    Goodies in the Mail

Want to know what I got in the mail?
    Two packages:
Package #1 was a name necklace from Monogram
It was ordered through Wagjag.ca last month and it finally came today.
    It is OK, nothing special.
The name and the chain is thin so I don't know if I would wear this often.
I wont be purchasing this again for either myself or for someone else.
I would save my money and purchase a better quality necklace at Winners.
I was lucky because this was a gift.
Package #2 was my order from Glymm
Last month I received a $10 off coupon for their online website.
I really wanted to use it because with my points and the coupon I was able to get $30 off!
That is a bargain and that cannot go to waste.
I didn't want to pay for shipping, who wants to pay for shipping, so I had to pick one of their featured sample products in the December box.
I could wait until January because what if I don't like what is in my January box.
I didn't want to take that risk so I have decided to purchase the Ahava hand cream which I really adore and the Principessa Lip Balm for fun.
